DETROIT LEARNING CENTER ONLINE
DETROIT LEARNING CENTER
For thirty-six years the Detroit Learning Center worked to become an integral part of the community located in northwest Detroit. Today's schools and classrooms have been transformed into a fast pace learning environment. Remedial, enrichment and continued education learning opportunities are now available online to assist students of all ages, backgrounds and learning abilities outside of the traditional school/classroom setting. We believe that young students (grades K-4), some older students (grades 5-12) and some adult learners can benefit from "direct instruction" or "one-on-one instruction" through a teacher, tutor or an online resource before they can be successful in the fast pace school/classroom environment. Some students just need to first LEARN HOW TO LEARN!
Note: On June 30, 2018 the Detroit Learning Center closed its northwest Detroit location. Thank you, DETROIT!

Our world is changing at an unprecedented pace. To prepare our students, lessons must go beyond the "3 R's" and foster 21st century skills. BLOOM's TAXONOMY
Bloom's Taxonomy says that knowledge is the lowest level of critical thinking skills. A student must move beyond simply obtaining Knowledge to the Comprehension of the information taught in the classroom. He/She must then learn the Application of what is learned to begin to operate on a higher level of thinking.
Sometimes a student must first begin by strengthening or reviewing basic remedial skills in reading and mathematics before he/she can make progress in a course or before he/she can transition back into a classroom/online course learning environment. Remedial simply means a correction of faulty study habits to raise a student's general competence to build a strong foundation for future learning. Learning isn't memorizing! You memorize facts and formulas before you learn how to process or to think critically about what you are learning. Remember the KEY (Keep Educating Yourself) and continue to expand your knowledge for the 21st century classroom, the workplace and for your own personal enrichment.
